In 1994, Coretta Scott King was the keynote speaker at MIT's 20th annual celebration of the birth of her late husband, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She addressed the MIT community in Kresge Auditorium, following the traditional silent march that travels from Lobby 7 and Massachusetts Avenue to the auditorium. The year's theme was "The Movement for Economic and Social Justice: 1994 and Beyond".

Over two decades of MLK Celebration keynotes are anthologized in Reflections of the Dream, 1975-1994: Twenty-One Years Celebrating the Life of Dr. Martin Jr. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by Clarence G. Williams (MIT Press, 1996), which concludes with King's keynote.
